Hello, my name is Ralphael Alexander. Below is a demo reel created for my Audio Production course, at Full Sail University. The overall task was to create or source; sounds best suited for various video game levels. Going with 90% sourced sounds, I feel the attention to detail lies in the editing process and use of my, recently acquired school knowledge. The first level: a series of power ups; I chose to go with sounds that complemented the visual action and function, of the power ups themselves. The second level consisted more of items that could be used as entry switches. Here i went with sounds that applied to the design of the switches; a button, palm scan, and lever, made for three unique sound choices. I kept in mind the mechanical design of each switch, if any inner-workings of the switches would makes sounds as the were being activated, the electrical components of switch #2, or the gears involved with switch #3. I wanted to get as close as possible. Though, the time limits were hard to adjust to. The Third level was an environmental loop of lava, in a cavernous, volcanic area. I imagined a deep; almost hollow cave, where the ambiance over the magma would maximize as it flows, magma bubbles would echo with a fair amount of reverb, as the loop played. The Fourth level: A series of entry ways. Has sounds based on the material the door is to be made of. Whether wood or metal, I let the design of the door have a say in the sound, whether the door seemed to date a time period, or appear weathered or damaged. I wanted the sounds to incorporate these aspects. The final level was a set of portals. The biggest aspect here was ambiance, to accurately present the ambient tone, I felt each portal gave. The first appeared to be more ominous in design, where as the second appeared more like light shimmers in the sunlight. The third, more of a dark matter substance; it was important to incorporate the pulsating appearance this portal gave off, and how that would sound to the human ear, while perpetually moving air. Please Enjoy.
